Hanuman Jayanti

On the Chaitar Purnima, (which is regarded a very auspicious day in Hindu calendar) of each year Hanumaan Jayanti i.e. Birthday of Lord Hanumaan is celebrated. He is revered as the great devotee of Lord Rama, who went to Sri Lanka for the search of Lord Rama's wife Sita, who was earlier abducted and kidnapped by Ravana, King of Sri Lanka.

He is mentined as son of Varuna and of his wife Anjani (Anjani Putra Pawan Sut Nama) He is also mentioned as Mahaveer (a great warrior).

His meeting with Sita is beautifully described by Bhakta Tulsi Dass, a 16th Cent. poet & writer, in his book Rama Charitar Manas (also known as Tulsi Dass Ramayana), in the 5th Chapter, Sunder Kaand. Sita was imprisoned by Ravana in Ashok Vaatica,Lord Hanumaan also saved Rama's brother Lakshmana, when he was injured during the fight with Ravana in sri Lanka by bringing Sanjivani booty ( Herb ) for his treatment.According to the Hindu mythology, it is said that on the Chaitar Punima, Lord Krishna had Raaslila in Vrindavan with all the Gopis (milkmaids) by incarnating his image for each Gopi.
